Carrie Fisher, Princess, Actress And Author, Passes Away At 60

Carrie Fisher, the actress who was best known for her portrayal of Princess Leia in the Star Wars films, breathed her last on Tuesday. She was 60 years old.

The sad news of her demise was confirmed by a statement released on the behalf of her daughter, Billie Lourd, who said the actress passed away on Tuesday morning, reports The Guardian. "It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly," Halls' statement read.

Fisher had suffered a cardiac arrest on Friday while she was on a flight from London to Los Angeles and had been hospitalized since then, reported The New York Times.

She was born to veteran Hollywood actress Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher in 1956. Fisher first stepped onstage at the age of 15 when she joined her mother in the Broadway musical Irene. She left her mark on the big screen with "Star Wars" which released in 1977. The film which was written and directed by George Lucas made her an international movie star overnight.

Only she had that art of establishing Princess Leia as a damsel who was efficient of dealing with her own distress. She had returned to her character in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", which was released in 2015. Fisher was also scheduled to appear in the next Star Wars: Episode VIII which is scheduled to be released on Dec. 15. She was very vocal about being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

Fisher's mother, Debbie Reynolds, 84, paid tribute to her daughter on Facebook, "Thank you to everyone who has embraced the gifts and talents of my beloved and amazing daughter. Love Carries Mother." Her Star Wars co-star Harrison Ford said she was one-of-a-kind, brilliant and original.
