Salmonella Scare In The US: Throw Away the Twinkies and Palmer Candy

Twinkies and Palmer Candy joined the long list of recalls that happened because of the Salmonella infection scare in the Valley Milk Products. These products are not sold directly to the consumers but are used as ingredients in the number of bakery products that are popular in the market.

The cakes recalled by Twinkies are sold in nine-pack boxes have been distributed to the grocery stores, mass merchandisers, and dollar-and-discount stores throughout the US. Its UPC is 888109111571. They use a confectionary coating produced by Blommer Chocolate Company, which has recalled its product as it used Valley Milk Products as an ingredient.

On December 9, 2016, the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) reported that 50-pound bags of non-fat high-heat milk powder and sweet cream buttermilk powder produced by Valley Milk Products, Virginia had a potential Salmonella contamination. These bags were found at a manufacturing facility of the company and were produced from December 10, 2015 to July 5, 2016.

The CNN advises that it may not bode well for you to hoard the limited-edition Holiday White Peppermint Hostess Twinkies or delicious chocolate confections of the Palmer Candy Co (including almond and peppermint bark and candy party bowls and covered pretzels. The companies have recalled their products as they might be infected with salmonella.

Salmonella bacteria can cause serious or fatal food poisoning in children, elderly and those who have weak immunity system. Even healthy people can experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and stomach ache when they get infected by salmonella. In rare cases, it may cause septicemia, arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), and arthritis.

The companies have urged the consumers to throw away any left-over products they might have at home as a food safety step.

  • Dawn Food instant pudding and pie filling mixes
  • Deep River Snacks kettle chips
  • Dieffenbach's Sour Cream & Onion Kettle Chips,
  • Fourth Street Barbecue Inc. macaroni and cheese
  • H-E-B Boston cakes
  • Herr Foods Inc. and Peddler's Pantry smoked chipotle kettle cooked potato chips
  • House-Autry Mills cornbread and biscuit mixes
  • Mikesell's Potato Chip Co. Nacho Cheese Tortilla Chips
  • New Hope Mills crepe mix
  • Old Dutch Foods Inc. flavored potato chips and tortilla chips
  • Publix Super Markets pancake and waffle mixes
  • Ron's Home Style Foods Inc. Tropical Fruit Supreme, Pineapple Nut Delight and Pistachio Crème
  • Route 11 Sour Cream & Chive Flavored Potato Chips,
  • Shearer's Foods LLC kettle chips, potato chips and nacho chips
  • Snyder of Berlin Buffalo Blue Kettle Cooked Potato Chips
  • Southeastern Mills Inc. and Shore Lunch (who recalled their biscuit, gravy, and breading mixes),
  • Stonewall Kitchen pancake and waffle mixes

  • Williams-Sonoma Meyer Lemon Poppy Seed Quick Bread
