A top Paris surgeon, Michel Cymes reveals what he believes are the secrets why French women do not age or grow old more slowly than Brits. On average, French women live two years longer than British women and are also known for their youthful looks at all ages.

He explains nine secrets in his new book.

They eat more garlic

Garlic contains lots of health benefits that help increases life span. It contains antioxidants and also has anti-ageing properties. He said it is better consumed raw to retain as much nutritional value as possible.

Take less alcohol but appreciate it more

Alcohol reduces life span and quickens ageing process. It is recommended to drink like a sommelier according to Cymes. To remain youthful, drink slowly and savoring the glass of wine.

Clean the refrigerator

The surgeon emphasized the importance of cleaning the refrigerator properly, at least twice a month. Contrary to the popular belief, germs can survive cold conditions, and what is inside the refrigerator will eventually end up in the body.

He recommends using sponge and white wine vinegar to clean the refrigerator before drying it with a cloth.

Take dinner more seriously

He warns against watching television during dinner. People tend to eat more quickly when watching television, thus, chewing less, do not realize they are full and consequently eat more than they should.

Take dinner more seriously and eat mindfully to avoid eating more than you need, according to Independent.

Use good sunglasses

Sunglasses have uses other than for looking good. They are important for protecting the eyes and skin around the eyes.

Cymes said getting glasses with big frames and wide arms prevent light from sneaking in. He urge people to make sure the lenses conform to European standards and are also at least class three or four.

Take your workout into the pool

He recommends exercising in water as high intensity exercise puts a lot of pressure on the joints. To be more specific, Cymes recommend Aqua cycling also known as pool biking or hydro-spinning. It means cycling on a stationary bike in a pool.

It feels like less pressure is applied but it actually pushes the muscles more, according to

Take good care of the decolletage

A woman's chest and cleavage area contains fewer sebaceous glands than the rest of the body and tends to become wrinkle faster. He urged women to treat it with more care just like the face.

Women are advised to take at least, five minutes every day to stimulate the production of collagen which helps tissue to resist wrinkling such as moisturizing, protecting and exfoliating the skin, according to Daily Mail.

Change pillow regularly

An old, worn-out pillow that does not support the head properly can cause serious neck ache. He recommends a thick pillow for women that love to sleep on their side, a firm one for those who sleep on their back, and a thin one for those who lie on their front.

Do not feel guilty for not being perfect

So many people tend to blame themselves for not having it all, but Cymes believes that striving for perfection will end in failure.

He recommends that women should note that nobody's perfect, being nuanced makes one interesting and the world is more complicated than just bad and good. He added that if you want to live longer, then, start to live!
