'My Life as a Zucchini' is the Switzerland's submission for the Foreign Language Oscar at the 89th Academy Awards. It is also being considered as one of the major contenders for the 'Best Animated Feature' Award at Oscar 2017. The movie is going to hit the US theaters on February 24, 2017, but it has already been touring the film festival circuit and has received high accolades and awards everywhere.

Slashfilm reports that the animation movie 'My Life as a Zucchini' also received a nomination at the Golden Globes Awards 2016. Directed by Claude Barras and written by Céline Sciamma, this French-Swiss movie has been originally called 'Ma Vie de Courgette' or 'My Life as a Courgette'.

Thankfully, this stop animation film has nothing to do with vegetables. 'Zucchini' is just the name of a 9-year old boy who is an orphan. The movie revolves around his life and how he finds new friends at an orphanage. Zucchini and his friends are not as pretty as the characters of a Disney or Pixar movie but they are still cute, lovable, and charming in their own way.

The movie has received an overwhelming response from the audience worldwide. It debuted at the Director's Fortnight at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival and went on to win Audience Award as well as the grand prize called 'Cristal for Best Feature Film' at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival.

According to the Flavorwire, though the trailer of the movie is in French with English subtitles, it will be dubbed in English for the US release. Will Forte, Nic Offerman, Ellen Page, and Amy Sedaris have been roped in to provide the voice to the movie's characters.

The movie has received 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes which is quite rare. The movie is 66 minutes long and was made for only $8 million. The movie uses 54 puppets that were 10-inch high. The models were created by Gregory Bossart in Geneva, Switzerland while the animation work was done at Studio Pixel which is near Lyon, France.

Barras said that he was most touched by the kids who said, 'I'm lucky I have a family.'
