HTC has launched its flagships devices for the year 2017, which might save the falling sales figures of the company. The two phones - HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play were launched by the company today.

The company's new 'U' Series smartphones are powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI), which sets them apart from HTC's other range of smartphones. HTC has named its AI as HTC Sense Companion, reports CNET.

  • Sense Companion can offer restaurant recommendations based on the patterns and activity, as mentioned on HTC official website
  • Depending on the weather, it can even suggest what to wear
  • If going on a longer trip, it can suggest carrying a power bank
  • The Sense Companion will get to know the user over time and will provide suggestions accordingly

HTC U Ultra

The 5.7-inch phablet is covered in a sapphire glass, which HTC calls a Liquid Surface Construction that mimics the properties of a liquid. However, the sapphire will be limited to an exclusive version of the smartphone which will be launched later this year. The phone comes with a QHD display with a secondary screen on top which will house the HTC Sense Companion.

The smartphone is powered by Snapdragon 821 SoC with 4GB RAM and 64GB/128GB storage options which can be expanded with a microSD card. The rear camera is a 12MP UltraPixel unit with an f/1.8 lens and OIS. The camera has a laser autofocus and HTC has added phase detection focus too. The front camera is a 16MP shooter.

The smartphone has a non-removable 3000mAh battery. The phone has a USB Type-C port but the headphone jack has been omitted by the company. The device will be launched with Android 7.0 Nougat.

HTC U Play

HTC U Play is a smaller 5.2-inch device with a 1080p screen and comes with HTC Sense Companion just like HTC U Ultra. The smartphone has aluminum back and a Gorilla Glass on the front.

The 3.5mm jack is absent here. Mediatek Helio P10 chipset and a 2,500mAh battery powers the smartphone. U Play will come in two variants - 32GB storage with 3GB RAM and the other with 64GB storage and 4GB RAM. The phone has 16MP camera on both front and back sides. The primary camera comes with an OIS. The device will be launched with Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
