Samsung has been showcasing concepts of a foldable screen, but it seems now the concept will finally make its way into a speculated Galaxy X smartphone.

The company had filed patents in November last year, which showed Samsung's ideas for a future phone design could include a foldable screen, as reported by The Verge. The phone may be launched in Q3 or Q4 this year and phone will fold out into a full-fledged 7-inch tablet.

The speculations come from a report published on The Korean Herald that confirms Samsung will launch a foldable screen smartphone that can be transformed into a tablet. As per the report, Samsung is expected to roll out more than 100,000 units of fold-out devices in the third quarter. The speculations might come out to be true as Samsung has previously shown a prototype screen that is able to roll in and roll out just like a paper.

As per the sources, "The final decision will be made after the personnel reshuffle of the company's information technology and mobile communications unit is carried out."

Samsung is still unsure on the decision of launching a foldable device this year and it will wait until its 'executive-level reshuffle'. It is also expected that that the company might launch first foldable display smartphone at Mobile World Congress in 2018.

The company is apparently considering launching two devices and one of them will have a 5-inch screen when used as a cellphone but it can be rolled out to show an 8-inch display.

The speculated specifications of the device include a 4K AMOLED screen with size more than 5.7-inches. The phone is also expected to sport dual rear-facing cameras to deliver exceptional low light performance. Additionally, the higher resolution screen will be immersive for VR peripherals like Samsung Galaxy Gear.

There are also reports of LG launching more than 100,000 foldable devices in last quarter of the year and they might rival Samsung's foldable devices. Other companies like Apple are also expected to come up with foldable phones next year.
