FCC Listing Reveals Nvidia Shield 2 Might Be In Development

Nvidia Shield is a handheld gaming console which was launched in 2013. The device was launched to revolutionize portable gaming but was not so popular because of very less gaming titles available and it was expensive for an average consumer.

As reported by PCGamer, an FCC filing spotted by a Reddit user makes it seem that a new version of the Nvidia Shield might be in development. This will hopefully bring portable gaming to the mass market and bring some famous and exclusive titles for the platform.

A filing on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) shares the pictures of the new handheld gaming device which have been made public, as reported by HotHardware. The images reveal that a successor to Nvidia Shield is in development.

It is speculated that Nvidia is going to use a larger 5.66-inch display with 1440x180 resolution, which is an upgrade from the original 5-inch display with 720p resolution on the Nvidia Shield. At this resolution the processor will be able to run games at 60fps with a very low latency. The second generation portable console will also be thicker according to the dimensions submitted to the FCC. The images of the product can be seen here, as published on FCC's website.

The other specifications of the console include Nvidia Tegra X1 processor, a mircoSD slot, a micro-USB port and a possible HDMI port. There is also inclusion of the headphone jack, 5GHz Wi-Fi and a new Bluetooth with low energy profile in the console.

The images on the FCC website reveal that the gaming console will be similar in design to the first generation. The console is expected to ship with Android 7.0 Nougat and great multimedia capabilities including some of the features of Nvidia Shield Android TV. Nvidia might announce the console at some upcoming events, including the Mobile World Congress and Game Developers Congress in February.
