LGBT Couples Breaks The Record In U.S: 4. 2 Percent Of Americans Identify As LGBT

The percentage of LGBT couples in U.S are increasing drastically each year. In 2012, the percentage of LGBT couple in U.S was 3.4 percent, but when it reached to 2016 it has reached to 4.2 percent. The young people from the age between 18 to 29 tend to be LGBT more likely than the older people above 65 years of age.

Gallup.com has published an article based on the poll, which was done to identify the statistics of LGBT, bisexual and transgender percentage in the United States. The number of American adults, who identifies to be LGBT  is 10.052 million of the total population, according to the Gallup polls. When compared to the number of LGBT couple in 2012, there is an increase of 1.75 million.

The survey was done as a part of Gallup Daily tracking with a respondent of total 1.6 million U.S adults. Among the respondents, it was identified that there is an increase in the percentage of LGBT women when compared to men in the U.S. The probability of non-white Americans to be LGBT are more likely than the white Americans. Also from the survey, the percentage of lower educated Americans to be LGBT  is higher than the college graduates.

As per the law in the United States, marrying a person of the same sex has been legalized since Jun 26, 2015. The CNN Politics has reported earlier about the fear of same sex couple under the rule of President Donald Trump. The couple fears about any future law by Trump, which may turn the same sex couple marriage as illegal. So the couples were in a hurry to tie the knot before Trump could take away their right to get married.

The survey by Gallup has given only an approximate number of the LGBT couples present in America. But still, there will be many respondents, who wouldn't prefer to reveal their sexual preference. There are several other findings from the survey conducted, which shows the difference in the LGBT percentage when compared to the 2012 survey.

Compared to 2012 the percentage of LGBT among Millennials has increased from 5.8 percent to 7.3 percent. The LGBT in General X has been constant as that of the 2012 survey. The percentage of LGBT in Baby Boomers and Traditionalists has been decreased when compared to the 2012 analysis.
