Samsung has recently confirmed that it will soon launch a new smartphone. The company has not confirmed the name of its new phone but it has applied the United States Patent and Trademark Office to patents its design by the name of Samsung Galaxy S8. The last phone launched by Samsung in the Galaxy S series is called the Samsung Galaxy S7.

According to the Business Insider, the home button of the new Samsung Galaxy S8 will not be a physical button anymore. It will be embedded underneath the front glass panel and will respond to one's touch. If this turns out to be true, the new Samsung smartphone home button may look like the new Xiaomi Mi 5s smartphones.

Technologically, Samsung Galaxy S8 is said to be far superior to the other Samsung smartphones in the market right now. It is expected to have a dual-lens camera and dual speakers. According to the ET News, the camera will have 16-megapixel and 8-megapixel lenses while the Chinese social site Weibo claimed that the phone will feature 13-megapixel and 12-megapixel sensors. The functionality of this dual-lens camera is not clear yet.

In October 2015, Samsung had acquired the high-end audio company called Harman. It is expected that Samsung Galaxy S8 will feature its dual speakers. If these speakers are placed on the top and bottom edges of the phone, they may offer stereo sound functionality like the Apple iPhone 7. Around the same time, Samsung had taken over AI smart assistant company called Viv too, and may soon announce its own virtual assistant called "Bixby". Bixby will be a virtual assistant like Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant.

In the US models for Samsung Galaxy S8, the company will be using the Snapdragon 830 processor - a chip manufactured by Qualcomm. In the international Samsung Galaxy S8 models, it will use the company-owned Exynos chip. Based on the dimensions of the phone Samsung shared with the case-makers, it has now been revealed that the new Samsung smartphone will have a USB Type-C and retain the headphone jack. A USB Type-C was introduced in the Galaxy Note S7 too. It is fast replacing the traditional micro-USB as it helps in charging the device faster and can stream videos and transfer files to external monitors too.

It is also said that Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Edge will be about the same size as Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge but its screen size will be considerably bigger as the top and botton bezels have been considerably slimmed down. The edges of the screen will be curved.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 release date has not been confirmed yet. Samsung's President of Mobile Koh Dong-jin has however confirmed that the Galaxy S8 will not be ready to launch at Mobile World Congress, which will be held in Barcelona in February 2017. Industry experts believe that the phone will be launched by Samsung on April 18, 2017, in its own event in New York City.
