Derek Hough, the popular "Dancing With the Stars" pro, is now heading to a new dance competition series at the NBC. He will not be the part of "Dancing With the Stars" Season 24, which is expected to be launched in March 2017. Associated with the DWTS' early days, Hough won the Mirrorball trophy six times. He has been off seasons on the show before, so it is not clear whether switching to another dance show means the end of his run at DWTS or not.

The Variety reported that Hough has officially signed on for the new dance competition series of the NBC's "World of Dance" where he will join Jennifer Lopez and Ne-Yo as a fellow judge. The new dance contest will see solo dancers competing with dance groups on a number of dance styles such as hip-hop, popping, locking, break dancing, tap dancing, ballet dancing, krumping, clogging, stomping, and ballroom dancing. The premiere data for "World of Dance" has not been announced yet. Presumably, it will debut this year.

The TV Guide reported that the dancing instructor Hough will join the sizzling J.Lo and the famous R&B singer and dancer Ne-Yo on the NBC dance competition WOD as one of the judges. Lopez has been a judge on American Idol too. The World of Dance format has three age divisions. In each division, dancers will duke it to the top. The best dancers of each division will then compete with each other for the title of "Best in the World" and a million-dollar prize.

"Jennifer, Derek, and Ne-Yo are three of the most accomplished dancers of their generation," said Meredith Ahr, president of the Universal Television Alternative Studio. "Their incredible insight from the judges' table will be both inspiring and constructive to the world-class dancers competing on the show."
