A latest study warns that it's presently clearer than before; we are facing a global epidemic of blindness. This is specifically for the millions of children who are earlier exposed to digital screens.

The high-energy light discharged from digital screens is giving rise to a permanent impairment of the eyes due to retinal degeneration. This will continuously happen worldwide if we do not reduce our time of exposure in front of a screen. Retinas are the light-sensitive layer found at the back of the eyes and if damage, it is the greatest origin of major blindness.

According to Daily Mail report, "it is paramount for adults and parents to act now and protect themselves from further damage." Lead researcher Dr. Celia Sanchez-Ramos said. 70 million out of roughly 900 million devices nowadays are utilized by children in the US without an eye shield like protective screen or glasses.

The researchers examined and contrasted the results of two previous studies conducted at University Complutense of Madrid in Spain. They exposed retinas of rats to tablet screens emitting white LED light. The first group was exposed to tablet with Reticare, and the second group is exposed without filters.

After three months of tablet exposure, the rats exposed lacking filters boosted in retinal cell destruction of about a 23 percent. The group of rats with filter, on the other hand, got no retina cell death. "These results are important because LED screens are being used by the majority of the population, adults and children, for work, school and entertainment," Dr. Sanchez-Ramos said.

Scientists conducted another study, which is measuring the emission of the LED screens from diverse gadgets and computed the extent of high-energy light. The digital devices such as smartphones, tablets, computers and game consoles sent-out light with an elevated ratio of concise wavelength.

This is an evident radiation that is extremely energetic and can cause impairment of the eyes. It was found out that children absorbed three times more light since their arms are shorter.

There might be a solution for blindness, which is via stem cell therapy. According to Explore Stem Cells, scientists last year were to revive the vision of a blind person. Stem cell therapy functions by putting back cells in the eye called retinal cells. However, despite this hopeful eyesight recovery, we should still have to care for our eyes.
