Pets Are Part of the Family: Research Claims Pets Provide Service to Owners

As some research says, pets may play a significant role in a person's life. Pets may help children in developing their interpersonal relationship and their emotional stability. They may also provide service and companionship to their owners. Pets also extend their support in therapies such as occupational therapy, speech therapy and physical rehabilitation for the patient's recovery.

And now another research has been claiming that in order to stop children from fighting, the family should consider getting a pet dog. WBNews had reported that a study claims that children prefer their pet dogs rather than their siblings. It is quite sure that they have their love for their siblings but then, love for pets is different. Siblings may have a sibling rivalry, fights over toys and new clothes from time to time. But pets? They provide unconditional love to their owners according to the research of Mars petcare (pet food manufacturer) and Cambridge University. In addition, pets do not talk back to their owners whenever disclosure happens which leaves the owners unjudge. Daily Mail had also mentioned that the research shows that girls reports more disclosure, companionship and conflicts with their pets rather than boys. This analysis has been opposing the other researches that boys lean on their pets more than the girls.

This study was made with the help of Waltham Centre for Pet Nutrition in Leicestershire which is a research center own by Mars petcare. The head researcher, Dr. Matthew Cassels had stated that "Anyone who has loved a childhood pet knows that we turn to them for companionship and disclosure, just like relationships between people." Moreover, Nancy Gee had also added that pets provide positive benefits to human health and community cohesion. Now, the researchers are still learning on the long term impact of pets in child development.
