Nina Dobrev has now confirmed her return to "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 finale. In an announcement that would surely delight fans of the hit supernatural series, the actress finally confirmed previous speculations that indeed, she will be reprising her role for the show's last episode.

In typical Nina Dobrev fashion, the actress announced her return to "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 via Instagram, the same medium she used when she announced her departure from the show. "I know it's Thursday, but this is not a TBT. #BackOnSet TVDForever," Dobrev posted using her account.

For months, fans have been waiting for an official announcement of Nina Dobrev's return to "The Vampire" Season 8 finale. Long-time fans have always been vocal in their wish for the reunion of Dobrev's character Elena opposite Ian Somerhalder's Damon Salvatore. Nina Dobrev is one of the original "The Vampire Diaries" cast when it premiered in 2009. She went on to play numerous characters aside from Elena Gilbert, including Elena's doppelganger Katherine Pierce and even the source Amara, reports Variety.

However, Nina Dobrev announced via Instagram in 2015 that she will be leaving the show after "The Vampire Diaries" Season 6. The season ended with her character Elena being put to sleep indefinitely. Rumors of Nina Dobrev's return in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 finale were started last year when show creator Julie Plec revealed that she spoke with the actress for a possible return. However, no official announcement has been made until now.

Commenting on Nina Dovrev's announcement, Plec expressed satisfaction in having Dobrev on board for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 finale. The creator said that it has always been how they wanted the series to end, with Nina helping them bid their loyal fans farewell, reports Yahoo. The series is currently airing on The CW on Fridays at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Meanwhile, "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 finale, which is also the series' finale, will air on March 10.
