Fine Rees, the owner of a leading lingerie boutique in the UK, developed Lyme disease after traveling from South Africa. The 43-years-old former fashion designer suffers from tremors after being bitten by an infected tick. Doctors say that due to the delayed treatment, she is now at risk of acquiring severe and long-lasting symptoms of the disease.

What's supposed to be an enjoyable camping trip to KwaZulu-Natal turned into a nightmare for Rees. After playing with monkeys, the fashion designer developed a tell-tale bull's eye rash. which is associated with Lyme, on her leg. She then visited physicians in South Africa and was advised to take antibiotics without mentioning anything about the disease.

As of now, Rees is dependent on a wheelchair while being able to only spend a majority of her day in bed. Residing in Warwickshire with her parents, she is now at risk of developing a heart failure and this caused her body to experience violent, uncontrollable shake.

"My life has changed beyond recognition. I am in a wheelchair. I can't tie my shoelaces. I've lost the ability to read," Rees said. "I can't believe a bite from a tick in the early 2000s could have done this. I thought it was the flu, overwork, migraines."
Daily Mail Online reported that Rees has forgotten about the bite, and it was only until several years when she suffered from serious symptoms like fatigue and headaches.

According to NHS, Lyme disease happens when bacterial infection disseminates on a human body. It comes from a bite of infected ticks and although it can be effectively treated if detected early on, the person suffering from the disease is at risk of developing serious and long-lasting symptoms such as heart problems, meningitis, and other problems which affect the nervous system, if there is a delay or treatment applied at all.
