Apple is planning to supplement the Intel Processor, the main driving force behind MacBook Pro, with its own chip. The chip reportedly will consume less power and may likely to replace the Intel chip in the future.

Apple's In-house chip was under development since last year and is similar to the one which is powering the Touch Bar in MacBook Pro 2016. The chip's unique feature is to consume lesser power compared to Intel chips. The chip in MacBook Pro was made using ARM Holding Plc. technology and the same technology is being used to manufacture the new one also.

According to Bloomberg, an unnamed source informed about the chip development, which internally code-named as "T310" would lessen the burden from Intel Chip. Currently, the chip used in MacBook Pro powers the Touch Bar only. However, the new chip will manage other components also including storage, wireless connections, retrieving emails, installing new software updates and synchronizing calendar appointments in display off mode.

Apple is betting high on the new piece of technology as it is coming under the hammer blow for draining the battery of 13-inch MackBook Pro that lasts only for 5-6 hours under constant usage. Apple believes that new chip can significantly increase the power savings and would be able to market the product well. However, Apple has refused to comment on the chip development. But, Apple stock reacted strongly with this new leak with a surge of 6 percent, while Intel Shares have fallen by 0.8 percent.

As per The Verge, it is not entirely sure how this new chip will be able to help Mac users as the benefits will only come into play when the laptop is asleep. Apparently, Apple is trying to improve the standby time, which is currently quoted as 30 days.

ARM processors are extensively used in the smartphone market due to their power saving capabilities. Intel is already facing tough competition from its rivals-Taiwan Semiconductor Company and Samsung Electronics. Added to this, if Apple succeeded in making its own chip to replace Intel's chipset, then it would be a real and serious threat for Intel!
