A study has concluded that overeating is one the primary reason which land people in the emergency situation. Typically, on a games day like Super Bowl, people tend to eat 10 times more than normal day and would invite emergency medical attention for food obstruction or stomach pain than any other time of the year.

A study conducted by Dr. Asim Shuja and his research team of the University of Florida focused on the causes leading to overeating and emergency situation in hospitals. The data was collected by the team over the past 11 years related to an emergency room of at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Boston.

According to the University of Florida, "Though the sample size was small, it's clear that a pattern emerged showing a higher percentage of people seeking treatment during or just after the holiday or event," Shuja said. The gravity of the situation, especially like overeating during Super Bowl event, poses a great challenge as the percentage of people seeking medical attention after the event is on rise.

Men reported of overeating during Events days, Sports days like Super Bowl or Holidays like Thanksgiving Day. The problem of overeating is assessed based on the serving size, alcohol consumption, and how quickly people ate.

From 2001 to 2012, over 38 cases were treated with the emergency procedure on esophagus during or just after a holiday or an event. Of the 38 cases, 37 percent are due to food impaction. The common causes of food impaction include Turkey (50 percent), Chicken (29 percent) and Beef (21 percent). During events like Super Bowl, unknowingly, people overindulge in excess alcohol and food consumption, reports Daily Mail.

One of the tips suggested to avoid overeating during Super Bowl like events is to account for what one eats. Eating throughout the day and not staying hungry during that event will repel overeating. In case, overeating is committed, then drinking lots of water and workout can help flush out excesses from the body.

A typical Super Bowl party contains dishes like nachos, a variety of dips and wings, says dietitian expert Keri Glassman. A check on fats and sodium will lessen calories and overburden to the esophagus.
