Attractive Vs Less Unattractive: Who Really Earns More?

Good news! Although some reports suggest that looking good is associated with higher pays and success, a new study claims otherwise. This means that someone doesn't need to look like a supermodel to earn more.

A few years ago, there are several surveys and studies conducted to find out whether those who are above average in terms of physical attractiveness earns more than those who are below average. The result, which was done in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom, have concluded that those who are "gifted" with beautiful appearance tends to earn more and researchers call this as "beauty premium".

However, the new study reported by Red Cube claims a different result. To find out, they put a test that measures physical attractiveness and the earnings of 20, 745 people on a five-point system for over 13 years at four different points. The respondents, who are from ages 16 o 29, have considered what most studies have failed to take into accounts such as intelligence, health, and personality. The result? A surprising contradictory to the previous researches.

Compared to what they call the "beauty premium", it seems like those who are very unattractive earns significantly more than the unattractive, and often more than the average-looking and even attractive respondents. Study authors have referred to it as "ugliness premium". Therefore, very unattractive and attractive individuals are both paid best.

So basically, pays does not depend on beauty at all. Rather, the study authors, as Yahoo! reported, found that attractive people earn more not because of their physical appearance, but because they are more intelligent, healthier, and have better characteristics. Better characteristic or personality means being conscientious and less neurotic, And the same thing goes with "very unattractive people" who are not earning just because of "pity" but because of their intelligence, health, and personality.

Therefore, workers should be advised to spend more time in taking care of one's self, rather than doing an hourly makeup routine before heading to work.
