As the day in which the world may seem to end, the Svalbard Global Seed Vault was built in the between Norway and the North Pole in the Arctic Ocean. Also known as ‘Doomsday’ Seed Vault created in 2008 has been reported to receive over 50,000 new seed deposits.

News reported that the Svalbard Global Seed Vault is made to house a huge number of seeds. In which its sole purpose is to secure human’s survival with food security if the world encounters apocalypse. The Doomsday vault has then been said to receive 50,000 seed deposits from countries all over the world.

Yet, amid the Norwegian government running the Doomsday seed vault, organization known as Crop Trust is the one who organizes the charity for the helps received from various countries. Pakistan, India, Benin, the Netherlands, Morocco, the U.K., Belarus, Herzegovina, Bosnia, Mexico and the United States were the countries mentioned to have contributed for the deposit of over 50,000 seeds per Inquisitr.

Furthermore, executive director of Crop Trust, Maria Haga had concluded in a statement that, “Collective efforts to conserve crop diversity and produce a global food supply for tomorrow continue to be strong. Crop diversity is a fundamental foundation for the end of hunger.” With that said, the Doomsday Arctic Seed Vault’s 50,000 received seed deposit was said to be the biggest deposit ever received since it was built over 9 years ago.

Hence, it was noted that the Svalbard Global Seed Vault has the capacity to store 4.5 million varieties of crops. It was then mentioned in the Crop trust website that “Each variety will contain on average 500 seeds, so a maximum of 2.5 billion seeds may be stored.”

More so, the protection of the seeds in the Doomsday Arctic Vault is said to include prevention of contamination through having seeds shipped from other countries through big boxes. In which, each box undergoes x-rays for safety. Afterward, the vault to contain the deposits is said to have five doors equipped with locks which could only be accessed by selected few people around the world.
