Meteor In West Texas Caught By Dashcam In A Footage, Residents Shocked By Rare Sonic Boom [VIDEO]

Rare moments are yet to be captured. Yet, a police officer just driving in the city had a chance to capture an extravagant view. A meteor which looked like it is about to fall in Texas had been caught by his dashcam. Reports had also mentioned the statements of those who had witnessed the event as well.

According to Daily Mail, Officer Tiffany Vanzant of the Weatherford, Texas police department had been driving in Fort Worth around 8:55 in the evening. “Saw a meteor so big, bright & close that I slammed my brakes thinking it was going to hit the road” Vanzant posted on Twitter along with the footage. She then added that she thought it was a plane falling.

With that said, the meteor created a loud sound that it rattled people living in the area where the meteor was spotted. It was then 9 in the evening that calls had been received by the emergency services regarding the noise.

To shed some light on the subject, Mike Hankey of the American Meteor Society said that the noise heard by those people is actually a sonic boom which is actually only one percent of what meteors produce. Sightings were identified to be far as Aurora, Colorado, which is nearly 700 miles from the impact zone.

Other residents who had caught a view of the event were Deputy Fire Marshal Nathan Hines in Abilene and Lauren Modery driving between Amarillo and Lubbock. In Modery’s tweet, she mentioned that “The #meteor I saw in #WestTexas was a fireball with a blue/green tail. Saw it burn out before horizon” per Dallas News. 

Meanwhile, Deputy Hines’ said that he thought what he heard was thunder. He said that they didn’t see a fireball, just a flashy light due to the cloudy and rainy area in 80 miles west of Abilene. Nonetheless, experts advice that people should be on aware of rocks that have smooth surfaces, are heavier than normal and are attracted to magnets.
