Obesity has been a common problem for middle-aged people. Yet, amid their fatness, some obese people still want to be healthy. Hence, being healthy and obese is a case that is possible according to experts.

According to The Guardian, being healthy and fat is also a phrase which could equal to smoke without having lung cancer. In which is indeed possible. Professor Haja Kadarmideen, a geneticist at the University of Copenhagen then stated that genes are the one responsible for some people being fat and healthy at the same time. As well as genes may cause obesity to make a person develop diabetes and heart disease.

On the contrary, Professor John Mathers of Newcastle University mentioned that genes might not be a role. Instead, he said that “A few individuals who are obese will have an inherited condition such as Prader-Willi syndrome [causing weak muscle tone, developmental delay and an inability to control appetite].”

With that said, Healio noted that Joshua A. Bell, Ph.D., a research associate at the University of Bristol had their findings differentiate healthy obese from normal weighted persons by assessing 6,635 adults. Their study was said to found out that healthy obese adults tend to age faster than healthy normal ones. The reason behind that difference is said to be greater declines in functional status.

Yet “Healthy obesity is not likely a protected state when it comes to risk for disability, and such outcomes that reflect day-to-day experience and quality of life need to be considered when advising healthy obese adults on weight loss” Bell added.

Meanwhile, Mail Online reported that a study published in European Journal of Preventive Cardiology had said that obese persons not having activities are those in risks of having a cardiovascular disease compared to healthy people. Dr. Klodian Dhana, of the Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam, then noted that exercise or physical activities play a crucial role in the prevention of the cardiovascular risk regardless of weight status.
