The world's most popular microblogging website, Twitter, is considering to open up paid membership to select users. Twitter, in turn, offering them better and enriched features on its website. This is the first time the company is mooting the option, though it has scrapped such plans earlier.

As per BBC News, Twitter has sent emails to select customers about the paid membership option and features. The company at present accessing interest of users to consider for this paid membership. It promised that a new platform called "Twitterdeck" presumably offers enhanced features and more functionality to its premium users.

Twitter has written emails to its users stating that "This premium tool set will provide valuable viewing, posting, and signaling tools like alerts, trends and activity analysis, advanced analytics, and composing and posting tools all in one customizable dashboard,"

The idea of paid membership comes when there is a significant jump in registered users every year. Twitter survival solely depends on the ad revenue generated through advertising on its web services. However, it may also be noted that other microblogging and social media websites like Instagram, Snapchat and etc., are giving tough competition and making Twitter run for its money.

According to Investopedia, though Twitter is posting revenues, the company's revenue growth is seeing a decline since it went public four years ago. Unlike Facebook, which has posted a robust $8.8 billion in revenue in Q4 2016, Twitter could able to manage to scoop up a revenue of $7410 million only during the same period.

Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey came under heavy fire for sluggish growth and failing to capture the social media market, which is growing at exponential rates. With the new paid membership plan, Jack is planning to turn around the revenue and business model like Microsoft did with its social media platform-LinkedIn.

The paid membership plan was first conceived by the Twitter Co-founder Biz Stone in 2009 and subsequently died down upon his exit from the organization in 2011. Hopefully, with the new plan, Twitter will result in higher revenue growth and accrue profits.
