There are over 100 billion observable galaxies in space. Milky Way, our own galaxy, contains around 300 billion stars in the night sky, notes Sky and Telescope.

According to TheActiveTimes, many people are unable to see a clear view of the stars at night due to light pollution. The best way to see the full beauty of the night sky is by going to stargazing locations, national parks, and other places far from the city.

If you want to fully observe the unhindered starryscapes at night and don't mind hiking, here are 5 of the best hiking trails for stargazing:

1.) Castle Trail - Badlands National Park

According to the National Park Service, the Badlands National Park has a Night Sky Observing Program. Telescopes are provided and a park ranger will helpfully point out stars, planets, and constellations in the summer night sky.

2.) Navajo Trail - Bryce Canyon National Park

The Navajo Trails, according to the NPS, is one of the most popular trails in the country. The trail begins at Sunset Point and has a total distance of 1.3 miles. At night, you can clearly see sky objects from the canyons and rock formations which make it a perfect stargazing trail.

3.) Summit Area - Haleakala National Park

According to the PrideofMaui.com, one of the best things to do when you visit Maui in Hawaii is to visit Haleakala. This is the world's largest dormant volcano, rising 10,023 feet above sea level. The Summit Area in the Haleakala National Park has an observatory perfect for stargazing. You can also choose to go to the slopes on clear nights to get an unobstructed view of the sky.

4.) Rim Trail - Grand Canyon National Park

According to GrandCanyoncvb.org, the many overlooking decks in the Rim Trail at the Grand Canyon give you stunning views of the place. The Grand Canyon provides one of the best night sky observation gatherings because of its clean air and location away from the city. They also have an upcoming Star Party on June 13-20, 2015 according to NPS.

5.) Gunsight Pass - Glacier National Park

According to National Geographic, the Glacier National Park is one of the country's largest protected ecosystems and is perfect for trekking, climbing, and camping. There are many things to do in the Park, but if you're looking for a prime stargazing spot then head over to the Gunsight Lake located along the Gunsight Pass.
