Kendall Jenner is the latest celebrity to join the teatoxing trend which involves drinking slimming herbal teas and among the favored brands are Bootea, StripTeas and Kusmi.

Waves of organic non-caffeinated slimming teas are claiming to help regulate blood glucose levels, aid digestion, and weight-loss, according to UK Daily Mail. It seems to be popular among personalities such as Kendall, soon-to-wed couple Mark Wright and Michelle Keegan, and Casey Batchelor.

The supermodel told E! News about her diet secret that involved an herbal tea plan, saying that she "usually start[s] my day off with a cup of detox tea. I have like 12 cups a day" of Kusmi Detox Tea. A new way to detox through green tea is called teatox. It is said to promote detoxification, increase energy, and most importantly, weight loss.

Another herbal slimming tea favorite among celebrities is Bootea. It has the following of the likes of David Haye, Simon Webbe, Lucy Spraggan, and Batchelor. The Bootea cleanse goes for a 14-day period consisting of a daytime detox and bedtime cleanse, according to its website.

Another popular teatoxing brand is StripTeas. According to its website, it is "rich in antioxidants" and "don't include any cheap laxatives for effect - we prefer our teas to be kind to your body." StripTeas claims to improve digestion, increase energy, detoxify the body, and curb the appetite. Fans of StripTeas include Louise Thompson, Lateysha Grace, and Fran Newman-Young.

According to Shape, "while there's some evidence that drinking flavonoid-rich tea protects your heart, skin, brain, and bones; helps you manage stress and maintain weight; and fends off cancer and type 2 diabetes, there's no published research to show teatoxes are safe or effective for weight loss or anything else."

Experts from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) state that there is no enough evidence to support that senna, a laxative in some detox teas, can promote weight loss. When senna is ingested, it can irritate the lining of the stomach that can result in cramps, discomfort, and diarrhea.

It is highly discouraged to not use teatox for more than two weeks because "it can cause abnormal bowel function or changes in electrolyte levels that can lead to heart problems, muscle weakness, liver damage, and other harmful effects." NIH also shares that "since our bodies naturally cleanse and purify themselves by processing and eliminating them through sweat, urine, and feces, using laxatives like senna if there's no real medical need seems like a waste."
