Tennis star Juan Martin Del Potro confirms that he needs to undergo another surgery for his left wrist.

The 2009 U.S. Open winner announced to his fans via a Youtube video that his doctors found a tendon problem on his left wrist, one that would need surgery. According to Bleacher Report, this is Del Potro's third surgery in the past couple of years. He will be having the surgery in the United States on Thursday, Jun 25.

Daily Mail has learned Del Potro returned to the Australian tour in January after an absence of 10 months. In the quarter-finals of Apia International in Sydney, he was forced to forfeit the Australian Open in Melbourne because of his wrist injury.

He returned for a match at Miami Open in March but was defeated by Vasek Pospisil of Canada.

"Since my last tournament in Miami until today, I've spent some tough weeks and months. Some sad days, some dark days, not much light at the end of the tunnel because of my serious wrist injury," Del Potro says in the video.

He adds that he isn't giving up and that he will be fighting for what he loves and for his passion to play tennis. Furthermore, the tennis star shared that when he left the Miami tournament, he felt bad and realized that it was foolish to push his body to the limit when it was not in great condition.

Del Potro shared that his left wrist started feeling painful in 2012 or 2013 and this is the first time that he's taken a hiatus by not practising or working out as he is finding solutions for his injury.

"At first, it was diagnosed as tendinitis but it's more serious than that as the tendon is damaged. Several doctors, including the one that has treated me all this time, recommend another surgery," Del Potro says.

Del Potro notes in the video that he is going through frustrations and is to toughen up himself in the coming days; he will undergo the surgery hoping that it will help his wrist problems.

"I've decided to commit myself again and undergo surgery, hoping it will be the final solution, hoping I will have my wrist healed for good," Del Potro concludes.

ESPN also reports that Del Potro's ATP ranking has dropped to No. 578. He used to be in the top five before his injuries took a toll on his career and body.
