The long-awaited phone from Apple, allegedly called the iPhone 6s, will reportedly come with a Force Touch feature.

Apple has reportedly begun production of the new iPhone 6s that comes with Force Touch, a pressure-sensitive touch technology already in use in other gadgets.

"Apple is bringing Force Touch, first unveiled for the Apple Watch and the newest MacBook model, to the iPhone at least two years after it started working with suppliers to perfect the pressure-sensitive displays," a report by Bloomberg said.

"The feature, which lets users adjust the strength of their screen taps to bring up different functions, is Apple's latest move to stay ahead of rivals such as Samsung Electronics Co., which this year released its latest Galaxy smartphone with a screen that can be viewed from the side."

According to the International Business Times, the phone will have more or less the same design as the iPhone 6 in keeping with Apple's habit of keeping the "s" versions of their phones similar to its basic designs. The exception was last year's iPhone 5s, which had slight hardware changes by having a fingerprint scanner attached to the Home button.

The Daily Mail says the new feature could also replace Apple's home button with a fingerprint sensor.

"Apple is internally developing touch and display driver integration (TDDI) single-chip solutions for its iPhones, according to sources in Taiwan's IC design industry," said DigiTimes.

The TDDI sing-chip solutions will allegedly come with integrated fingerprint sensors and are expected to fit into future iPhone models with "ultra-thin" and "ultra-narrow" displays, according to the report. It would also reportedly lead to the Home button becoming obsolete.

There is scant information of how Apple will be using the new feature on the new iPhone model but a report by Forbes suggests theoretical examples of how it will be implemented in iOS, like camera mode toggling for photography and video, faster video playbacks, alternative gaming controls, new shortcuts, and easier text selection, and multiple file selection.

According to Mobile News, Vodafone will be selling the new iPhone on September 25. News was reportedly leaked by company email to Vodafone's internal staff, saying that they will begin taking pre-orders for the Apple device starting September 18.
