Researchers have busted old beliefs that coffee can be unhealthy. A recent study has discovered that coffee may be beneficial to the heart and even help prevent other detrimental illnesses, like cancer.

According to The News Reports, the European Association of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation Drinking presented a study revealing several benefits to drinking coffee.

In terms of heart health, coffee can reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In particular, the risk of dying from a heart-related illness significantly decreases by 21 percent, if a person is to drink three to five cups of coffee consistently everyday.

Ahmedabad Mirror explains that coffee can decrease the amount of calcium deposits that accumulate in the heart's arteries, which usually leads to the development of heart disease, according to a study conducted at Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health.

However, drinking too much coffee can be bad for the heart as well. Dr. Gadkar explains that too much coffee could lead to tachyarrhythmia, a medical condition in which the heart beats abnormally. He advises drinking only two cups of coffee daily, taken without sugar or milk.

Other than improving heart health, coffee can also be useful to people with a high risk of diabetes. According to Financial Express, coffee can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, if consumed daily.

A study, found on the American Diabetes Association website explains that frequent consumption of coffee can help improve glucose tolerance, which subsequently lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes.

The ADA reports notes that either form of coffee, both caffeinated and decaffeinated, can lower the risk of type 2 diabetes in young or middle-aged women.

Besides preventing type 2 diabetes, coffee can also improve sexual health, reports Newkerala. According to HNGN, the hot beverage can be beneficial to men as it can decrease the risk of erectile dysfunction, says a study conducted at the University of Texas Health Science Center.

Web Health Centre adds that coffee can increase energy and stamina, resulting in enhanced sexual performance and a more enjoyable sexual experience.

There are plenty of other benefits to drinking coffee, including increased weight loss, better brain functionality, a healthier liver and improved kidney health.

In addition, coffee can also reduce the risk of cancer, particularly in women. According to The News Reports, daily consumption of five or more cups of coffee can decrease the risk of estrogen receptor-negative breast cancer in women by 57 percent.
