Android 5.1 Lollipop Update Release Date: Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Gets OS

Samsung and Sprint have worked together to bring out the Android 5.1 Lollipop update to Samsung Galaxy Edge Note.

According to Android Central, the update will change the version of the phone's software to N915PVPU4COFE. The new version is 147MB in size, and is also equipped with bug fixes and enhancements, which Sprint has not provided information for. The updates are currently ongoing and it may take a day or two before some users receive the upgrade notification on their phones.

Additionally, Sprint will also be bringing the update to Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge.

According to Android Pit, other phones that are eligible to get the new Lollipop update are Google's entire line of Nexus phones except for Nexus 9. In Motorola, Verizon's Moto X devices will also be getting the new version. In HTC, the HTC One, Butterfly 2, Desire 816, Desire 820, Desire Eye, One (E8), and possibly Desire S will all get the new Lollipop update.

In LG, only the LG G4 has been announced to receive the new update while LG G FLEX 2 is confirmed to get the 5.1.1 Lollipop update.

The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime was made available at Sprint last July 10. According to Tech Times, there are several ways to own the new phone, by buying it at full retail price, through monthly installments or getting the mobile on a contract.

The full price of the phone is $240. Qualified Sprint subscribers can get the new phone for $10 per month for 24 months. Another option is to purchase it at $29.99 plus a two-year contract with a $50 mail-in rebate. The list of official plans is listed in Sprint's official website.

The new phone has been touted to be a "high-quality smart phone" that is hip enough for kids and affordable for parents through Sprint's Family Share Pack.

"Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime and the Sprint Family Share Pack make it possible for parents to give their kids a premium smart phone and enough high-speed data for the entire family without breaking the bank," said Dough Kaufman, Sprint director of device strategy, via a Sprint press release.

The specs of the new handset include an 8GB built-in storage, space for microSD storage extendable up to 128 GB, 2,600 mAh battery, a 5-megapixel front camera and an 8-megapixel back camera. The Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime has a 960x540 pixel resolution, 1 GB RAM and will run on Android 5.1 Lollipop.
