Oscar winner Tommy Lee Jones is expected to play a high-ranking CIA agent in the next installment of the "Bourne" movies. According to Variety, other notable actors who have played superior CIA officers in the "Bourne" movies include: Edward Norton, Chris Cooper, Brian Cox and David Strathairn.

Jones seems to be the perfect addition to the list of actors who have already played high-ranking CIA officers in the movie and might just be the series' next antagonist.

Even though no other details have been revealed about the next "Bourne" movie, readers of the novel, written by Robert Ludlum, might assume that Jones will be playing an old friend of Bourne's, Alexander Conklin, but in a different name.

Conklin was portrayed as the main antagonist in the first "Bourne" film, but in the books he is actually Bourne's friend. In the second novel, Jason Bourne contacts Conklin for help.

Conklin is described as a much older man than Bourne in the books, who ends up helping Bourne and his family at the end of the novel. Jones' character might play a similar role in the fifth "Bourne" movie, but under a different name, since Alexander Conklin was already introduced into the film series.

Seeing the storyline tie back to Ludlum's novel will most likely add to the attraction of the film. The fact that Matt Damon will be reprising his role as Jason Bourne and that director Paul Greengrass has returned to helm the fifth installment of the series, will also undoubtedly increase people's interest in the film.

According to the New York Daily, Damon and Greengrass exited the franchise back in 2007, after making "The Bourne Ultimatum." A fourth movie titled the "Bourne Legacy" was added to the franchise.

The fourth installment starred Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross. Renner's character was also an ex-CIA agent who was being hunted down by the same government forces as Bourne.

The fourth installment to the franchise raked in a decent amount of revenue, making more than the  first film, "The Bourne Identity," reports Cinema Blend. However, in a franchise, movie companies seek to raise their revenue in subsequent movies.

Seeing that both Damon and Greengrass have returned, the fifth and possibly the final installment of the "Bourne" series will probably make more in the box office than "Bourne Ultimatum."

The fifth installment to the series, which is yet to be named, will hit theaters on July 29, 2016. The film will not feature Jeremy Renner's character, Aaron Corss, reports ComingSoon.net.

However, Julia Stiles will be returning to reprise her role along with Alicia Vikander, whose character has yet to be discussed.
