Ever since Square Enix announced the development of "Kingdom Hearts 3," millions of questions have been running through the minds of gamers, who are big fans of the Kingdom Hearts series.

Unfortunately, very little of those questions have been answered. Square Enix and game director, Tetsuya Nomura, have kept quiet about the game's development, down to the release date.

It would seem that news about the game will come in little drivlets. The latest piece of information released about the KH3 is that it will not run on the Luminous Engine, reports Game Bolt.

According to the highlight reel Epic Games released on Gamescom, "Kingdom Hearts 3" will be using the Unreal 4 Engine. Games Rant explains that Nomura and his team decided to run the game in the Unreal Engine 4 because it was having trouble running in the Luminous Engine.

Additionally, Square Enix has enlisted the help of Epic Games to help straighten out any kinks they might experience when shifting KH3 from the Luminous Engine to the UE4.

While fans are happy to hear about any sort of development in KH3, a number of new questions were raised from news of the engine switch. There is no doubt that the graphics of the game will improve now that it is running on UE4, but some fans are worried that the engine change could alter the overall look of the game.

The trailer of the game released before the engine switch revealed that Nomura and his team stayed faithful to KH's appearance and style. However, games that run on the UE4 have their own distinct look, which may affect KH3's cartoon-y appearance.

Fans are also worried that the game is not as far along in development as they had hoped, since developers just switched engines to work out some kinks. But Nomura has reassured fans that the game's development is still on schedule, and that he is currently working on the new worlds and outfits for KH3.

Despite Nomura's reassurances, however, Game Rant predicts that the third installment to the "Kingdom Hearts" series will be released two years from now.

Other than the engine, Nomura did share a little bit more about KH3 with two Asian gaming magazines, namely Famtisu and Dengeki Playstation, states Christian Today. The interviews were later posted on Games Talk, and translated into English by Gematsu.

Accordin gto Gematsu, Nomura confirmed that KH3 will be the end of Xehanort's storyline, but not the end of the Kingdom Hearts series. Developers have already decided where some of the other characters' storylines will lead in the rest of the series.

In addition, Nomura did state that a general release date window has been decided on and that more information about KH3 will be released at the D23 Expo in Japan. While the Expo is scheduled to start on November 6, there will be a "Kingdom Hearts III" fan event held on Nov. 3.
