The new big screen adaptation of the beloved '90s superhero franchise "Power Rangers" has been modernized and given a more mature plot, according to director Dean Israelite.

Speaking to an interview with IGN, Israelite spilled interesting information about the reboot movie.

"I read the script and was really surprised by it and thought there was a really cool, contemporary, mature but still playful, buoyant and fun take on the material, and was updated in a really interesting way," said Israelite. "It had this wonderful character that's essential to going on a fantastic adventure. I was instantly drawn to it."

When prodded for more information, Israelite said the new "Power Rangers" movie will be funny and contemporary.

"I think it's going to be a fun, joyful [movie] but one that feels completely grounded in a real world, with real characters going through real things," he said, likening it to his other teenager-centered film "Project Almanac."

As for the characters of the film, Collider released information about the perspective roles and personalities of the 17-year-old rangers.

The website stated that Jason the Red Ranger will take over the group as its leader. Jason supposedly had a bright future as a quarterback until a knee injury abruptly ended his premature career.

Kimberly the pink ranger has a mysterious past as she used to be one of the popular girls, but after dropping out for six months, she came back with a new attitude as rumors about her fled around the school.

As for Trini the yellow ranger, her bio is that of an intelligent and independent loner who is looking to find somewhere to belong to.

Billy the blue ranger is casted as the awkward nerd with an OCD of the whole group.

Zack the black ranger is the cool kid of the group complete with confidence and charm around women. But beneath his tough exterior, Zack lives with his single mom in a park trailer.

According to The Movie Network, the original series has been criticized for racial stereotyping and sexism. But with script writers Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama as well as Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz working on it, the movie will hopefully turn out positively different.

The website added that the movie may begin filming at the last quarter of this year or at the start of 2016. "Power Rangers" is scheduled to be released on Jan. 13, 2017.
