The Dark Horse Comic book superhero Hellboy may just make it to a third movie installment, according to lead actor Ron Perlman.

Speaking on Empire Online's podcast, Perlman stated that he and director Guillermo del Toro are in talks about the possibility of coming up with a third movie in the franchise, which has been on hiatus since the release of "Hellboy II: The Golden Army" in 2008.

Perlman adds that he is not at all that excited to put on the superhero suit again. However, Guillermo's grand vision for the story, as well as the extremely warm reception from Hellboy fans, has persuaded Perlman to don the big, red suit once again and finally complete the film trilogy, reports Flicksided.

"I really feel as though I'm done with the character," Perlman admitted. He added, "I don't have a burning desire to put that s**t on again. But Guillermo told me what the resolve of the trilogy would look like, in broad strokes, and it's such an amazingly theatrical, cinematic idea, that I found it essential that we do it. We were designed to be a trilogy, with a beginning, a middle and an end. We've only done two-thirds, so I feel that we're not really done until we finish it."

So what would the third installment of the trilogy be about? It would deal with the demon superhero finally fulfilling his destiny of becoming the key to the Apocalypse. In essence, Hellboy shatters the Earth, reports Bleeding Cool.

"He's the beast of the Apocalypse. He has to take down civilization. He has to. It's non-negotiable. That's the foundation for the story, and that's why I think it would be a shame if we don't do it," Perlman further said.

In additon, Perlman notes that Hellboy's children, the twins that his girlfriend Liz Sherman — played by Selma Blair — would play a prominent role in the unfolding of the finale's plot. If Big Red is going to fulfill his destiny of destroying the world, his children will surely play a big part.

Perlman explains that one of the twins will look like the mom, while the other will look like the dad. "And one of them was going to be completely f*****g corrupt, the other one angelic. Which one was which? Only Guillermo would make the f****d-up-looking one be the angel," he concludes.

In the hands of del Toro, who spearheaded blockbuster hits like "Pacific Rim" and critically-acclaimed films like "Pan's Labyrinth," the third movie of the "Hellboy" trilogy would almost surely be one movie that very few can
forget.
