Matt Damon is back as Jason Bourne in the fifth installment of the "Bourne" series. It has been nearly a decade since the 44-year-old actor has reprised his most iconic role, which raked in millions at the box office.

An eight-year hiatus from Jason Bourne, however, has not left Damon unprepared for the role. In fact, he looks better than ever and probably has an even more understanding of Bourne as a character, based on a picture taken by Frank Marshall.

Marshall is the producer of the "Bourne" franchise, explains Screen Rant, and he took a picture of Damon on the first day of filming for the movie. Damon can be seen shirtless, wrapping soiled bandages on his hands. It seems like he is ready for some hand-to-hand combat.

At 44, Damon looks like he's reversed the clock, not just revisited his character for "Bourne 5." The award-winning actor looks like he is fully prepared for "Bourne 5," both physically and mentally, and will be taking it seriously.

Along with Damon, director Paul Greengrass has returned to the franchise. Greengrass helmed "The Bourne Supremacy" and "The Bourne Ultimatum." He left the franchise after the third book to movie adaptation, reports Entertainment Weekly.

Damon and Greengrass have collaborated on the storyline of "Bourne 5." During an interview for his film, "The Martian," Damon leaked a couple details about the plot of the film.

He first explained, in the interview, that the initial three movies in the "Bourne" franchise sort of mirrored the Bush administration and the problematic events occurring at the time, reports Latinos Health.

Damon elaborated that he would often meet with Greengrass and discussed possible storylines for Jason Bourne. However, they were always stumped on one question: "what does Jason Bourne have left to say?"

After years of asking the same question, Greengrass and Damon finally received an answer: Edward Snowden. A former NSA employee, Snowden took secret files from the agency and released it to the American public.

The files contained confidential government information, which revealed that the US government was keeping tabs on American citizens. "Bourne 5" will premiere in 2016 and will depict a post-Snowden world. A more precise release date is expected as the movie's production progresses.

Vincent Cassel has recently joined the "Bourne 5" cast. Cassel is known for playing antagonists roles, leading many to believe that he will be portraying the main villain in the film.
