Rolls-Royce Motors unveils its newest convertible to attract younger and women drivers amidst a slowdown by 10 percent in the car market sales.

Reuters reports that the luxury British carmaker created the 2016 Rolls-Royce Dawn to bring in a new breed of customers and to practically apply a more modern approach to what the company is used to.

Rolls-Royce has been catering to the older generation for 111 years now, possibly because of the price range and how their models look. Giles Taylor, the director of design, states it's about time that the brand reaches out to young and versatile aspirates and lessen the perception that Rolls-Royce can only be driven by formal and opulent drivers.

As a step up to the modern world, the carmaker also previewed its Dawn model online, breaking the traditional setting of unveiling a new car at the Frankfurt Motor Show. However, the formal debut will still happen next week for a much-needed introduction of the "sexiest" car ever built.

Motor and Authority writes that the 2016 Rolls-Royce Dawn is essentially a Wraith coupe in a convertible version, but with added enhancements to the body and interior of the car. The carmaker states it will have 80 percent unique body panels, remaining to be a four-seater without feeling cramped. There will be an expansive deck made from premium wood and the roof will have specific engineering and manufacturing details.

The 2016 Rolls-Royce Dawn is said to have the following specs & features:

  • Twin-turbocharged 6.6 liter V-12
  • 563 horsepower at 5259 rpm with 575 pound-feet of torque at 1500 rpm
  • Eight-speed automatic transmission
  • Satellite Aided Transmission technology with GPS to read roads and shift gears accordingly
  • 20 or 21-inch wheels
  • Rear-hinged coach doors
  • Can hit 60 mph in 4.9 seconds, top speed limited to 155 mph

Of course, being a Rolls-Royce, price is expected to be heavy and it is estimated to cost more than the Wraith, at around 300,000 euros or US$ 335,000, Driving reports. Analysts are saying only really rich people can afford this car, stating that with the decline of convertible sales, it will not return to the numbers it has reached during its 2004 peak. Part of the decline has been blamed on carmakers shifting their focus on the China market.

Although using modern and updated technology, the Dawn isn't the first convertible of Rolls-Royce Motors. It follows the more expensive and bigger Phantom, which has been priced previously at 390,000 euros. The 2016 Rolls-Royce Dawn will be available to the public first quarter of next year.
