JK Rowling: It's 'Voldemor", not 'Voldemort"

There's a reason why wizards, witches and muggles can't say the name of "He Who Must Not Be Named" -- and one theory tells it's because they don't know how to pronounce it! Or rather, they have been saying it wrong all this time.

So who's the best person to ask? None other than the author of the well-known and loved book series.

CNN writes that what started to be a quiet Twitter conversation started by HP fan Michael Lucero, who offhandedly tweeted, "One piece of Harry Potter trivia I always forget to mention: the 't' is silent in Voldemort, according to @jk_rowling."

Rowling responded with a tweet back, saying she thought she was the only person saying it that way.

Of course, once the writer said something about it, all hell broke loose in Twitterverse. Fans and followers began voicing their opinions about pronunciation and the English language, tweeting random things like how people pronounce French words and how surnames are pronounced.

Metro adds that Twitter user @Lord_Voldemort7, which goes by the name "The Dark Lord" joined the frenzy by saying he has been saying it for the past five years.

Rowling has even stressed it in past interviews that Voldemort's name is pronounced as how the French word "mort" is said. It means "death", which is quite appropriate with The Dark Lord's reputation, and he is probably fuming and has wanted to curse witches, wizards and muggles who kept saying his name poorly.

Mirror UK shares that apparently, the actors from the movies have been saying it incorrectly all throughout the eight movies, including Tom Riddle himself. Everybody knows the name Voldemort came from the name "Tom Marvolo Riddle", so how come he has mispronounced his name?

Well, that's another Twitter Q&A trivia J.K. Rowling has to answer some other time.
