2016 Chevrolet Camaro runs 0 to 60 mph in 4 seconds; can it beat the 2016 Ford Mustang?

With a handsome exterior and a lighter built, the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is definitely up to be one of the most powerful and fastest cars to be unleashed this year. Furthermore, Chevrolet officially released the performance figures of their latest coupe, making every car enthusiast ask, "will it be better than the 2016 Ford Mustang?"

Car and Driver reports that the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro will be lighter and better than the last model, boasting with a standard 2.0L turbo four with 275 HP and 295 lb-ft torque, while the mid-level V6 will come at 335 HP and 284 lb-ft torque. Lastly, the V8 will be with an amazing 455 HP and 455 lb-ft torque. Through these numbers, it is noticeable that when compared to the 2015 Camaro, the latest model will have an approximate 12 to 14 percent improvement when it comes to pounds and HP.

This apparent weight reduction could have helped improved the acceleration features of the Camaro and add more curb appeal to the coupe. The old sedan-based, bulky Zeta architecture look will be replaced by a sleeker, sexier Alpha bones, just like the Cadillac ATS.

Furthermore, Digital Trends writes that besides the acceleration, the look of the Camaro will be evolutionary because Chevrolet will still stick to the coupe's recognizable exterior. Two inches shorter but an inch wider, Chevrolet has definitely played the weight loss advantage card well. Critics might argue that there is not much to compare as the design is almost similar, but car enthusiasts and fans may rebut "why change the style when it still works perfectly well?"

Fox News writes that Chevrolet has tested an 8-speed, 455 HP Camaro SS automatic transmission for a 0-60 mph sprint and quarter-mile run, clocking at 4.0 seconds and 12.3 seconds respectively. Though it is still in test drive mode from the company, these numbers are faster than that of a Ford Mustang GT. Reportedly, even a 6-speed Camaro manual transmission was able to get 4.3 seconds for the 0-60 mph and 12.5 seconds for the quarter mile run.

It will take a few months before the real head-to-head showdown with its rival will occur, but as the Camaro is slated to debut later this year at a price tag of $26,695 for turbo and $37,295 for the SS, Ford must hurry up to get their Mustang ready in order to beat what Chevrolet has to offer.
