Many people are entering the New Year with one thing in mind: fitness. To have a New Year's resolution that involves significant weight loss is easier said than done. There are people who are so committed in fulfilling their promise of that near perfect body but having a hard time achieving it. The reason for that is many of them do not know how to do it the right way and, in the process, they waste so much time in their daily workout routine.

Getting fitter, faster does not necessarily always mean eating food with healthy labels while killing it in the gym.

According to a report by Cosmopolitan, a survey conducted by University of Scranton said that the most common resolution during New Year is losing weight. However, the study also confirmed only 8 percent of people wishing to get fit achieve their goal at the end of the year.

"Women, Food, and Desire" author Alexandra Jamieson stated that women easily get into a "trap of severe calorie deprivation in the winter."

"We set outrageous, unrealistic goals that make us feel we're not worthy until we achieve them. And if we have slipups, we feel worse about ourselves than before we made the resolution," she added.

In a report by Washington Post, people should not expect too much too soon. Many people are so excited in losing weights and, in the process, they overexercise while not having a proper diet. It may seem like they are losing extra pounds at first but, in the long run, without that much energy to sustain the fast pace fitness program, they will end up gaining more weight.

"When we drastically reduce calorie consumption and combine that with higher levels of exercise, the body adapts by lowering our metabolic rates," said Jenny Hadfield, an exercise physiologist, who founded her own fitness website, JennyHadfield.com.

Another tip of to not mess up your diet is to avoid the notion of eating less carb when you are working out. Carbs are body nutrients that get converted into energy. Without a significant amount of energy, people are most likely not able to complete their fitness program in the gym.

It is also very important to prepare food with fewer calories after your daily workout. People should remember that consuming more calories than what they have lost in the previous exercise is not going to take them near their goal of fulfilling the promise they made at the start of the year.
