"Let food be thy medicine" Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, said. This suggests that one should be mindful with whatever he consumes because food can also cause several diseases. For instance, too much sugar can cause diabetes and overeating can cause one to be overweight or obese.

In a press release for DietSensor in October, Remy Bonnasse, CEO and co-founder, wrote: "scan your food, manage your health." According to him, in 2014, diabetes caused $550 billion in spending, 5 million premature deaths and one amputation every 30 seconds worldwide. Poor measurement of carbohydrate among people with diabetes may lead to hypoglycemia, coma or long-term health damage.

Counting calories today means reading the nutritional labels on packaging, estimating proportions and keeping a logbook. Bonnase and his wife Astrid Assier de Pompignan find these ways time-consuming as they log all the food for their 9-year-old daughter Victoria who has Type 1 diabetes, Tom's Guide reported. The incident inspired them to create DietSensor.

According to Metro, Consumer Physics has unveiled DietSensor, a magical app and accompanying SCiO scanner, that allows you to measure the calories, carbohydrates break down, fat content and protein in your meal with just a quick scan. With this product, you will never need to experience all these tedious process mentioned above to count calories.

"It's the next generation of diet and nutrition apps," Bonnasse told TechCrunch. "This will do all the heavy calculation for you. You don't have to think."

DietSensor is a CES Innovation Award winner. Doctors and nutritionists use this to create customized diets. So, how does this work?

Bonnase explained that this product works by using Bluetooth and connecting it with a molecular sensor called SCiO. The molecule vibrates and interacts with light in different ways, which helps them determine the content of the food.

This app will be very helpful to individuals suffering from obesity or chronic diseases related to nutrition. A click of the sensor will let one know if the food that he is about to take meets the set of nutritional goals for him. DietSensor enables its users a precise control on the composition and balance of their meals. This app will be a great guide for us, on how to eat smart.

DietSensor will be available in the U.S. in mid-2016 and retail for $249. For those who wanted to see this product, it will be available at the CES in Las Vegas from Jan. 6 to Jan. 9, on Eureka Park, booth 81137.
