For sure, most of those who gained a lot of weight thanks to the holiday season feasts would want to shed off some pounds. Why not learn from the top athletes who, for sure, are fit enough for their fields?

Load up on Veggies

Take for example: football player Tom Brady. The athlete, who has said that he wants to keep playing football into his 40s, has a very specific – and strict – diet, reports the Business Insider.

Brady's diet, according to his and Gisele Bundchen's personal chef Allen Campbell, is a mix of plant-based and meat-based foods that are organic.

“So, 80 percent of what they eat is vegetables,” Campbell told the Boston Globe. “[I buy] the freshest vegetables. If it’s not organic, I don’t use it. And whole grains: brown rice, quinoa, millet, beans.”

What about the remaining 20 percent? “The other 20 percent is lean meats: grass-fed organic steak, duck every now and then, and chicken,” Campbell explained. “As for fish, I mostly cook wild salmon.”

Other athletes, like marathoner Scott Jurek and Chicago Bears lineman David Carter are also proudly vegan now, reports GQ.

Eat Your Oats

Isaac Caldiero, known as the first American Ninja Warrior champion, also has a power diet, characterized by oats. In an interview with GQ, the athlete said that he mixes oat bran with almond milk, molasses, cinnamon, blueberries and some chia seeds, and this powers him up early in the day.

Smoothie Everything

A good blender makes eating a lot easier by turning solid food into smoothies. Fencer Miles Chamley-Watson, for example, takes protein and nutrient-packed smoothies, which helps her in her field.

Go Fishing

Sumo wrestling champion Byambajav Ulambayar, 2015 French Open winner Stan Wawrinka and ultramarathoner Dean Karnazes are reportedly fish fans and so should those who think less of fish protein. Ulambayar prefers fried mackerel, Wawrinka likes Sea Bass and Karnazes enjoys raw Salmon.

Have a Balanced Intake

Triathlon athlete James Lawrence, as well as L.A. Clippers player J.J. Redick reportedly consume a “balanced” diet, depending on the need. For example, Lawrence did his best to eat “normal” food in preparation for a myriad of runs.

Redick, on the other hand, consumes what he hasn't consumed lately and “temporarily” cuts off anything he's eaten too much.

There are a lot more diets to choose from, but always remember that whatever your diet is, it's always up to you. You can even try the new “Batman V Superman” cereal, which is featured on IGN, if you want to.
