While having a workout greatly benefits your health by burning a lot of calories, eating the wrong food just might add up more calories than you have burned. Why not take fitness to the next level by eating healthy too?

To help you with that, here are some healthy foods that you can chomp down after your fitness routine, courtesy of The Latin Kitchen.

Wholegrain Cereals

Wholegrain cereals are known to be packed with protein and fiber, which makes it a perfect post-workout snack. On its own, wholegrain cereals are already a good source of energy and, when combined with dairy products like milk, it becomes a whole meal already.

Eggs

Football star Joe Kingman (Dwayne Johnson) from “Game Plan” refers to these as “little liquid chickens” and includes them in his protein shake.

Rightly so, as these favorites are power-packed with protein, as well as nine essential amino acids that help reduce muscle damage.

Greatist suggested making hard-boiled eggs, then taking them with you in a tupperware (or similar) container so that you can easily grab a snack when you need it.

Greek Yogurt

Greek mythology is riddled with muscled men and greek yogurt might help you achieve that too. It contains a double the amount of protein that regular yogurt has, and some calories that can replenish the energy you lost during your workout.

To make it into a power snack, eat it with berries. Yum!

Sweet Potatoes

This superfood contains a very high amount of Vitamin A that will help your eyesight. It also contains a massive amount of carbohydrates to help refill your energy reserves.

Chocolate Milk

Not only is this treat sweet, it also is packed with calcium, healthy fats and whey protein that helps your body recover from that intense workout. However, keep in mind that this contains a lot of sugar, so drink in moderation.

Hummus

This dip is loaded with carbs and plant-based proteins. You can put some of this in your mug, stick in a handful of veggie sticks made from carrots, snow peas and celery, and you have for yourself a good power snack on the go.

Tuna

Way healthier than other meats, tuna is low in fat but high in omega-3 fatty acids, as well as protein.

Jerky

Not only is jerky a lovable chewy snack, it's also one that makes you enjoy taking in serious loads of protein, Body Building stated. Choose brands that do not have MSG, such as Krave.
