Calorie counting can lead to weight loss. This is what most diet regimens introduce to people who wanted to shed some pounds. However, losing weight by counting the calories on every food can be bothersome. It also adds pressure and anxiety to an individual when they failed on this method. On the other hand, a recent study claimed that counting calories are not that effective at all.

According to Daily Mail, participants of a 12-week program lost weight without even counting calories of their food intake. It is the result of the recent study conducted by the Royal New Zealand College of General Practice. The researchers asked 33 participants not to count the calories of their food intake and not to do too much exercise.

People who participated in the program went on a whole food plant-based diet without eating processed foods. They have enjoyed eating whole grains, legumes, vegetables, unrefined soy and fruits. They were able to eat anything they like while limiting their intake of high-fat plant foods like avocados and nuts.

The Stuff reported that many diet regimens claimed that consuming nuts can help people lose weight. Those weight loss system can be considered as an energy-controlled diet, which basically has a short-term effect. Unlike in whole food plant-based food diet, participants of the study were able to maintain or lose weight even after the 12-week program.

Some of the group stressed that they gained higher self-esteem, lower cholesterol and consumed less medication. The program also taught participants nutritional knowledge by means of cooking classes and lifestyle change education. These provide participants concrete skills that will help them achieve their weight loss goals and adjust to a healthier environment.

Men's Fitness dubbed the whole food plant-based diet as an effective and safe way to start losing weight and start a better lifestyle. The whole food plant-based diet can also increase people's quality of life, lessen food spendings and improve their medical conditions.
