Trainer Kayla Itsines Gets 3.1M Instagram Followers: ‘Bikini Body Guides', Health Tips & More

Kayla Itsines is not a big-time celebrity trainer like Tracy Anderson, but she does have an impressive list of followers on Instagram. 

Itsines is a personal trainer from Adelaide, Australia, who has over 3.1 million followers on Instagram, reports New York magazine.

To put things in perspective, Tracy Anderson, the personal trainer of celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Gwenyth Paltrow, only has 167,000 followers on the social media portal.

Itsines had developed a set of guidelines to help women all over the world achieve their perfect "bikini body" in 12 weeks. The fitness trainer to the masses is currently on a worldwide tour offering free boot camps to all her fans. She recently visited New York.

Talking to Cosmopolitan, Itsines explained the truth behind the name of her guides, "Bikini Body." She says she regrets naming the guides "Bikini Body," but for lack of a better name she chose it.

"...I wish I'd made it more clear that any body can wear a bikini and that a 'bikini body' isn't my body, it's feeling comfortable and strong and fit and great about yourself when you wear the least amount of clothing you can wear in public...," Kayla explains.

In an interview with NY magazine, Kayla explains that her guidelines do not promote a certain body type, but rather focus on the confidence and happiness a person attains after achieving a certain physical form.

She further explains that her workout consists of 28-minute high-intensity exercises done according to a pace that is most comfortable for the person.

Referring to the critics that have said her plan is too drastic and quick, Itsines says: "The plan gets harder and harder to push you mentally to do something that you haven't done before...You can go at whatever pace you want to go."

In addition, she says that all the workouts are based on science, which is why people get such great results. "It's 28 minutes, but we're getting the most out of the time you're working out," said Itsines.

To people who are not particularly fond of exercising, Itsines urges them to at least try. She encourages people to try and implement exercise into their daily lives, even if it is only five squats a day.

According to Isines, five squats is better than nothing and it is at least the start of something. She advises people to start off small and push themselves to do more each day.

Itsines credits both diet and exercise for her figure. She believes that people should not cut out foods from their diet unless it is for ethical or health reasons, reports Cosmopolitan.
